Hello, my name is Michael.  I'm an 8th grader in the AdVENTURE program at Herman.  Being an AdVENTURE  student could be fun sometimes.  There are a lot of projects in the AdVENTURE program.  I have 3 classes in AdVENTURE.  The 3 are core, elective, and science.  I have math at Herman, and we don't do projects.  That is the main difference between AdVENTURE and regular middle schools.  That is the point I will explain in this E-Portfolio.

In AdVENTURE you reflect on your work a lot.  That makes you actually think about what you are doing and why you are doing. That is important because we do projects with a purpose.  It is an important life skill to know why you are doing something.  If we do it for no reason, it's pointless to even do it.

Being an AdVENTURE student could be fun at times.  We do a lot of hands on activities.  Sometimes it could get a little repetitive and boring at times, but usually it's OK.  We usually do the hands on stuff in science, but sometimes we would do it in core.  We use computers for my elective, Globaloria.  We make educational games in that class.  So overall the experience is fun.

The AdVENTURE program is good place to interact with different grades.  They try to make us one big community.  It is a good way to prepare us for the future.  We will have to interact with people that we are not used to.  Sometimes they try to force it on us, but it's usually OK.  We have projects that we have to do in teams (with our grade).  The only class we have that interacts with other grades is elecitve.  The grade we interact with is the 7th graders.

Overall the AdVENTURE program at Herman is a good choice for someone who wants to do a lot of hands on activities.  In my opinion, it is usually fun.  Sometimes all the projects at once are overwhelming.  Sometimes it could get kind of stressful, but other than that, it's OK.  That is why the AdVENTURE program is different from any other middle school.
